Maze building for tower defence beginners
Most people who bounce off tower defence do it because they stack towers and hope. The genre is really about geometry. If you can lengthen the path enemies walk, every tower you own fires more times per wave — you get power for free just by shaping the maze.
Start with the simplest trick: never build a straight line. A single zig-zag can double the time enemies spend in range. On open maps, use your towers as walls to carve corridors, but always leave a legal path or the game will refuse the build.
Chokepoints matter more than coverage. One heavily defended bend beats towers spread thinly everywhere. I always pick one killzone and funnel everything through it, then patch the rest as money allows.
The last tip is to leave gaps for upgrades. New players fill every tile early and then have nowhere to grow. Keep a couple of spots open near your best cluster. Once you internalise these habits, harder maps stop feeling unfair and start feeling like puzzles.
